FEEDBACK
"Dear Mr. Eliot Chang,
On behalf of the AAC of Colgate University I just
wanted to extend our great appreciation in having
you perform at our school. It was a fun new event
for us. You commented on many social issues that
are pertinent to our lives and connected well
with the audience. Your comedy made strong points
but was exhibited in a non-offensive manner, which
we found to be quite respectable. We have heard
a lot of positive feedback on your performance
and feel that this event helped gain greater exposure
to our group. There were many new faces in the
crowd. The show was a terrific way to bring different
groups on campus together.
- Hope Cassano, AAC Pres., Colgate
Univ. (NY)
"Mr. Chang,
Last night I attended the Asian American Student
Association Ball at which you spoke. Let me begin
by saying that I have spent a significant amount
of time over the past few years booking and attending
lectures through my involvement on the ASUN (Associated
Students of the University of Nevada) Programming
Board. Throughout this time, I can honestly say
that I have never seen a speaker who could engage
students and keep them interested as well as you
can. Your comedy act and workshop offer a unique
combination which is rarely seen, and which serves
to have a very positive impact upon students."
- Alicia Lerud, ASUN
Pres., Univ. of NV, Reno (NV)
"Dear Eliot,
We are writing to extend our appreciation in the
great night you gave to MHC. It was absolutely
such an amazing impact on the whole community,
not just within Asian students. Your comedy show
was original, thought-provoking AND funny! Your
workshop built a platform for open discussion
across all ethnicities on Asian American issues,
which otherwise wouldn't be possible. Working
with you was definitely a joy, especially that
you are such a nice person, on-stage and off-stage.
We are hearing a lot of very positive feedback,
and certainly this event helped gain great exposure
to CCA."
- Xue Bai, Ann Hsu, CCA Co-Chairs,
Mount Holyoke College (MA)
"Hey Eliot,
You definitely have exceeded many, if not all
of our expectations. The response was that you
were "fantastic" and that you were "great."
Your mixture of comedy and workshop was both effective
and entertaining. And as you can imagine, you
were an inspiration to many students. Some of
our more complacent members were so touched by
your workshop that they've asked to contribute
a more active role into our club now. And as far
as the rest of the campus is concerned, your voice
has definitely generated a lot of great and healthy
debates regarding social stigmas and identity
issues. Awareness was the key for us and you really
nailed it."
- Wil Yip, ASA Pres., Haverford College
(MA)
"Hey Eliot,
I really commend your efforts to step outside
of the 'Asian Stereotype' and bring some great,
and brutally honest, issues up to the forefront.
I really do value your words and your message
because a lot of the (Asian) students that I am
surrounded by are not as outspoken and do not
attempt to counter some of the social issues that
arise here on campus and in the community. I'm
really glad that I did make it to your performance
because you gave me some affirmation and reassurance
just when I was about to give up. It's great knowing
that I am not the only one out there who feels
the same way. It's a hard struggle trying to do
things on your own, and that's why sometimes I
get discouraged. Your performance really re-ignited
that fight in me, and there is no way in hell
that I'm throwing in the towel now. I was taken
aback by your bluntness, but at the same time
awe-struck with admiration that you did do and
say some of the things that you said. I find myself
lost sometimes trying to find a positive Asian
role model who actually can stand up for his/her
own beliefs. I believe that one day you will make
it to the big-top, and when you do, I know that
you will make more positive changes for Asians,
not just in the media, but everywhere."
- Kabee Vue, Asian Student Org., Univ.
of WI, La Crosse (WI)
"Eliot,
Once again, I'd like to thank you for coming out
and being a part of A.S.I.A. night. It goes without
saying that I enjoyed your comedy, but what really
made your comedy unique was that you made people
think about real issues. Most acts are meant to
entertain, but I believe you also incorporated
many explorations of ourselves and our mind across
in your routine. This was definitely an event
that I will not soon forget."
- Wesley Cheng, Asian Students In America, Syracuse U. (NY)
"Eliot,
I am so glad that I attended your show last
week at the University of Idaho, and I thank you
for performing at our school. I definitely haven't
seen a comedic performance quite like yours and
I found it extremely humorous. Also your Q&A/workshop
really got me to think about myself. For one I
don't find myself to be truly racist at all, but
I do use racial slander/jokes at time because
I thought it was funny, but now you have given
me a whole new perspective on it. I find myself
refraining from using them, and also commenting
on others when they do it also. You also really
made me think about studying my culture and history.
If you are reading this, then I want to thank
you again and tell you that I hope you keep up
with your act because you are an inspiring and
intelligent person, more so than many comedians
out there today."
- Jesse Simpson, University of Idaho
